Knowing Bees

[Girl With a Bee Dress - Maggie Taylor]

You think that I don’t know the bees exist.
You think that I do not know what to look at
on their bodies, that I do not care about learning
their anatomy or mating rituals
or the making of honey. You think
that I do not care about aerodynamics,
or desire to understand the mechanics of pollen gathering
or the sociology of the hive. You are so busy
trying to convince me that I do not want to learn,
blaming my vacant body on an undisciplined mind.
What you do not understand, is that my empty shell
is a sign that my spirit is absent, that I have gone and joined
into the essence of the bee.
