Dreaming People

Dreaming about people makes them more familiar. Like the feel of fabric or skin. You will look at their faces ever after and smell clean laundry or think of the dish drain sitting next to the kitchen sink. They have become part of your life. When you dream about them, they exist in color, and they sit beside you on the couch commenting on CSI, wearing clothes that you’ve seen all your life, and petting your dog--who leans against their legs. You think of them, and then logically you think of the old tin flute you kept on the top shelf of your closet when you were eight, and the shoes that you slip your feet into every day. And you glare at the dog and wonder why you dream and why you don’t, the smell of fresh laundry in your nose.
