Cheating

Have you every realized how beautiful cheating songs are? I'm not sure exactly where the attraction comes from (okay, so I have a few ideas), but there are two songs that I find absolutely beautiful, both of which deal with the subject of cheating.

I'm an INFP,by definition an idealist, I believe in true love and soul mates and the beauty of everything on earth (trust me, sometimes I'd rather not believe these things, merely on principle, but I can't seem to help it, the believing is encoded into my DNA). And yet I love Sugarland's song Stay, and Lisa Hannigan's Silent Night.

Perhaps it's the unpolished feel of Sugarland's vocals (and the fact that her guitar is acoustic) that really draw me. Every time I listen to the song I can see her perched on a bar stool strumming her guitar (and maybe crying-but then that's just my DNA projecting things), rather than performing in a rock concert or in a nicely padded recording studio. But you have to agree, this really is beautiful.

I've been sitting here staring at the clock on the wall
And I've been laying here praying, praying she won't call
It's just another call from home
And you'll get it and be gone
And I'll be crying

And I'll be begging you, baby
Beg you not to leave
But I'll be left here waiting
With my Heart on my sleeve
Oh, for the next time we'll be here
Seems like a million years
And I think I'm dying

What do I have to do to make you see
She can't love you like me ?

Why don't you stay
I'm down on my knees
I'm so tired of being lonely
Don't I give you what you need
When she calls you to go
There is one thing you should know
We don't have to live this way
Baby, why don't you stay?

You keep telling me, baby
There will come a time
When you will leave her arms
And forever be in mine
But I don't think that's the truth
And I don't like being used and I'm tired of waiting
It's too much pain to have to bear
To love a man you have to share

Why don't you stay
I'm down on my knees
I'm so tired of being lonely
Don't I give you what you need
When she calls you to go
There is one thing you should know
We don't have to live this way
Baby, why don't you stay?

I can't take it any longer
But my will is getting stronger
And I think I know just what I have to do
I can't waste another minute
After all that I've put in it
I've given you my best
Why does she get the best of you
So next time you find you wanna leave her bed for mine

Why don't you stay
I'm up off my knees
I'm so tired of being lonely
You can't give me what I need
When she begs you not to go
There is one thing you should know
I don't have to live this way
Baby, why don't you stay?
Lisa Hannigan's Silent is even more beautiful, for two main reasons: her writing style, and her voice. I could drown in a voice like that. Tell me this isn't beautiful.

Silent night, broken night
All is fallen when you take your flight
I found some hate for you
Just for show
You found some love for me
Thinking I'd go
Don't keep me from crying to sleep
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, moonlit night
Nothing's changed
Nothing is right
I should be stronger than weeping alone
You should be weaker than sending me home
I can't stop you fighting to sleep
Sleep in heavely peace

You can listen to both online:
Sugaland - Stay (just scroll down to the reccomendations and click the play arrow next to stay).

And for Lisa Hannigan's Silent night you'll have to watch the cheesy video
(iLike didn't have the full version available to listen to online).
